Get to Know Michael

What gets you fired up about coming to work?
Knowing the team and company I’m working for. The kindness of the people in my company and the encouragement of the leadership here is what makes me strive to do better. It is a common theme to not understand the power of encouragement. Ed understands this concept and I believe, that is how the culture of Mackoul is formed and why every single one of us here want to push harder every day.

I would like to also add that I get fired up from waking up. I think generally speaking, people get caught up in the moment and lose sight of the blessing we have to wake up each day. It’s a work in progress, but I think being more conscious of knowing that each day is a blessing will makes us seize that day more as if it is our last, because you never know. Be Humble, express gratitude and enjoy life!

What is the best advice you have ever been given?
The best advice ever given to me was from my Nana. Growing up, she would always repeat the phrase “To Thine own self be true”. I didn’t really dive into the meaning of it until I grew up a bit. It makes complete sense. If you are not true to yourself, how can you be honest with anyone else. People can read through BS real fast; be yourself and people will gravitate towards you. And for those who don’t, you’re better off without them.

What is the one thing you cannot do without?
Other than my family which is number 1; I wouldn’t be able to live without the gym. If I miss more than 3 days my world begins to crumble and I do not say that lightly. Fitness became a part of me at age 17, and is a critical part of my everyday life. It gives me time to reflect on who I am, what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. I can then think about moving forward in efforts to make the next day better. It’s a healthy addiction; there are countless benefits from exercise and a common misconception is that the benefits are only physical. For me, more of those benefits are mental.

What’s your favorite travel spot?
My favorite travel spot, hands down would be Key West. Although there may not be many beaches around there, it’s a blast. Snorkeling, Jet Skiing, local historical tours, museums, Duval Street.  There is so much to do and yet it’s so tranquil at the same time. My family and I have never had a bad time there! I highly recommend!
