Injuries from dog bites are responsible for more than one-third of all homeowner claim pay outs. Historically, Homeowners Insurance has covered an insured’s liability for dog bites, but the increasing number of incidents has prompted many insurers to exclude certain breeds of dogs. In some cases, homeowners have been unable to purchase coverage, or had their polices cancelled due to the presence of a certain breed. Never withhold information from your insurance agent or carrier as this could result in other claims being denied or your policy being cancelled. Review any policy exclusion relating to certain dog breeds with your agent, and finally always use preventative measures to protect your dog and the safety of others.
