New York City property owners are responsible for ensuring that their boilers operate safely and comply with all building codes and related regulations.
The boiler inspection cycle runs all year, from January 1st to December 31st. During this cycle, internal and external inspections of both low-pressure boilers and high-pressure boilers must be performed and filed with the Department of Buildings’ Boiler Unit.
These boiler inspections must be conducted by either a licensed plumber or the insurance carrier that insures the boiler. Most insurance companies will provide the inspection as a convenience, but the ultimate responsibility to make sure the inspection is set up and completed, is the building owners. Failure to complete these annual inspections will result in fines by the NYC Department of Buildings.
