Tasty Tuesdays: Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce

Want to add a little spice to your life? Here is a yummy 15 minute recipe for Fettuccine with a Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce. The star ingredient of this recipe is Cayenne Pepper. It is a seasoning that adds zest and spice to any dish. If you can handle the heat, this is the spice for you. Cayenne pepper is known for its red hot flavor, called Capsaicin. In addition to its powerful flavor, Cayenne Pepper is also really good for you. Consumption of Cayenne Pepper provides your body with vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, Vitamin B6, Manganese, and Fiber. Research has shown that Capsaicin can help to prevent ulcers, reduce pain, decongest nasal passages, and even has cardiovascular benefits. Although this spice can be beneficial to your health, remember to use with caution – its hot!!

 

Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce
Ingredients
12 ounces dry fettuccine pasta
2 red bell peppers, julienned
1 red onion, chopped (optional)
5 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup reduced fat sour cream
1/2 cup chicken broth
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
salt and pepper to taste

Directions

1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
2. Meanwhile, spray cooking oil in a large skillet and saute red bell peppers and onion, garlic and cayenne pepper over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes.
3. Stir in sour cream and broth; simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cheese.
4. Toss hot pasta with sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste; serve.
