Quick Tip: Policyholder Duties When There is a Claim

Lisa explains what policyholders are responsible for when an insurance claim arises.

As a policyholder you have certain duties in the event there is a claim. You must give prompt notice of the loss, along with a description of how, when, and where the loss occurred. Be sure to protect property from future damage, provide detailed information as to what was damaged, and cooperate with the adjuster in setting up inspections and providing information. You must also return the signed sworn proof of loss within sixty days of it being requested by the adjuster. Please keep in mind that failure to cooperate in the handling of a loss could impact coverage. For more tips like this, please contact us.
