Justin shares how to prevent pipes from freezing in your home, and what to know if you find yourself facing this common cold weather problem this winter.
A typical homeowners policy provides coverage for frozen pipes, however in many cases the actual pipe itself will not be covered; only the damage that the burst pipe causes will be covered. During winter weather, we advise our clients to protect exposed plumbing with pipe insulation. It is also a good idea to keep your heat at a minimum of 60 degrees to prevent any freezing. A burst pipe could be a nightmare, especially if you are not home or away on vacation during the damage. In the event of a burst pipe your policy will also provide coverage for you and your family to live elsewhere if the home is not habitable.
