Get to Know Denise
What gets you fired up about coming to work?
I truly enjoy serving and assisting our clients. At the end of the day, it’s all about them, many times even after I’ve gone home.
What’s your biggest success to date at Mackoul Risk Solutions?
Getting to actually meet a good deal of our insured. It’s all been pleasurable and each of them seem to have a special quality all their own. I consider them part of our extended Mackoul family. What could success be more than that?
Why did you go into Insurance? What do you enjoy most?
It was by invitation actually, I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity. I love surprises and the element of surprise clearly defines the insurance industry. You never know what’s going to happen next in our world, and subsequently, in the insurance world because the industry takes it’s cues from world events.
What advice would you give to someone interested in starting a career in insurance?
Learn much, experience much. You need the learning to know, and the experience to grow. Nothing you can learn is ever wasted.
What’s your favorite song on your playlist? Why?
I have two, bear with me please.
A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum – I can’t say why, but it’s haunted me since 1967, and the organ still gives me the goose bumps when I hear it.
Annie’s Song by John Denver – I think it’s one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. My husband and I chose it for our processional after our wedding ceremony instead of the traditional Wedding March. Every time I hear it I beam on the inside.
Who would you most like to meet and why?
I would have loved to have met Samuel Clemens. I think we would have had a lot in common, and would have shared pleasantries together about the world. I love his lack of pomp & circumstance and his directness. He loved to play and I love to play, too (when I’m not working).
What character trait do you most admire?
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Be thoughtful, mindful, and respectful of everyone.
Describe your typical day at Mackoul Risk Solutions.
Morning hellos at 9:00 a.m. Evening goodbyes at around 5:00 p.m.
(Anything & everything in-between.)
Describe yourself in three words.
Petite, Pensive, Positive!
What is the one thing you cannot do without?
Can you share your favorite quote? What does it mean to you?
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa
As poignant as those words are, her actions spoke louder. I consider her a remarkable, giving, and beautiful woman. We can all give love and understanding away to someone every day.
What’s your favorite travel spot?
I don’t get to travel nearly as much as I’d like, but when I saw the Grand Canyon some years back I was overwhelmed and wept. It was awe-inspiring.
I’m also happiest frolicking in an ocean. I have to use that word, because I’m a poor swimmer, but I love immersing myself in the waves and foam. I love Long Beach as much as any tropical ocean or sea.
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Meatballs (Not cloudy with a chance of, but plenty with a full plate of!)
